“Not” Back-to-School Blog Hop: Day in the Life

First, congratulations to the winners of my Tiny Prints and Total Home Makeover giveaways… Angela S. and Heidi C. You’ve both been contacted by email. :)

This week the Not Back to School Homeschool Blog Hop topic is “A Day in the Life.” It’s funny, last year we tried out a pretty strict schedule, and it didn’t work well for Aidan. So this year, even though we’re getting more actual school time in, our schedule doesn’t look nearly as neat!

Here are the constants:

6:30am – wake up & eat (believe me, I’d love for this to be later!)
7:00am – get dressed, play a bit, mom checks email
8:00am – Bible time  & hymns
8:30am - other school stuff
10:00am – snack

noon – lunch
12:30 – nap for Cora & Alex, rest for Aidan
2:00pm – one on one time with Aidan

6:00pm – dinner

8:00pm - bedtime

All of those gaps mean they either have free play, we run an errand, or we’ll do some kind of activity. As you can see, we really only have 2 hours blocked out for school. Eventually (like by the time he’s 7), we’ll have to work up to about 4-5 hours a day to comply with state law (1000 hours of school per calendar year). Aidan is only 4 1/2 though, so this is perfect for him. Some days he asks to do more and we’ll use some afternoon time.

Since we’ve only been doing this for two weeks, I don’t have much to show for our time, but here are a few photos I’ve snapped! :)

Your kids are so young. It’s wonderful to let them play and learn at their own pace.

Thanks for sharing your day. We’re unschoolers in Australia and love hearing about other homeschoolers’ lives and meeting them as we travel!

I like your schedule. Maybe you can call me at 6:30 so I can get up too :) Is your son sewing? Good for him. I need to teach my daughter.

Yep! He sits at the table and presses the peddle slowly while I guide the fabric through. I don’t let him get his hands near the needle yet, but he does help me pin the fabric before we start sewing!
