Our Kids’ Room: Before (Olympic ONE Paint)

Welcome to a mini-tour of the most used room in our home (ok, it might be a tie with the kitchen)! It really is mini in more ways than one – the room dimensions are only 7×11, and because of the tight quarters I wasn’t able to get good photos of everything.

Both kids' clothes are in that dresser - and the top has unfortunately become a catch-all.

We’ve lived here since October but I just haven’t prioritized decorating Aidan & Cora’s room. It has the same neutral color on the walls as the rest of the house, and very little else in the way of decor.

This bed will be a daybed/trundle and the pack 'n play will be stored away.

Thankfully, The Motherhood contacted me and asked if I might want to try out/blog about the new Olympic ONE interior paint. This has just been perfect timing in so many ways! It has coincided with my discovery of Pinterest and all of the inspiring things there (hang on for some examples at the end of the post), and it’s great timing to transition the kids into a different sleeping arrangement (Cora has definitely outgrown the pack ‘n play)!

A few things about Olympic ONE (and then back to the photos!!)

* Olympic ONE is designed to be used without a primer – this means fewer coats and less paint to buy. Saves you money AND time!
* It repels household stains like dirt, grease, ink, and ketchup to keep walls looking new longer.
* It is formulated to guard against the growth of mold and mildew, so it’s perfect for the bathroom or kitchen.
* It is Low VOC (Volatile Organic Compounds) – which means you can use it without passing out, haha! This one is the most important for me since it’s going in the kids’ room!

Our Room Plans

After lots of hunting for inspiration, we’ve decided on this color for our room:

 Turquoise Mist by Olympic

I have been inspired by several vintage looking rooms with colors like these:

but don’t want to limit our color palette. I like the idea of lots of bright colors

but I also don’t want to go overboard. So… we’ll be painting furniture white and using pops of color in the decor. Projects on our list include:

And we’re stealing two ideas from this room – can you guess which?

You’ll have to come back next week (or maybe even over the weekend) to see photos of it all together. AND along with our “after” photos, I’ll be hosting a giveaway for $60 worth of Olympic ONE paint (enough for 2 gallons)! You can be my competition in the Simply Done contest – I’m cool with that. :)

*I was compensated and given free product in exchange for writing this post. See my Disclosure Policy for more on why I accept these offers and then tell you about it.

Will you be painting the dresser white? I always thought it would look so pretty painted, but never got around to it when I had it. Can’t wait to see how everything turns out!

And I’ll definitely be entering your giveaway. Of course, if I win it, that means I actually have to *choose* a paint color for the back room (we’ll be turning it into an office/playroom/guest room). Methinks I need to look for some inspiration on Pinterest!
